Frequently Asked Questions

To find 20% of any number, multiply it by 0.20. For example, 20% of 150 = 150 ร— 0.20 = 30. Or use our calculator above in the first box.

Percentage change is relative (e.g., from 4% to 5% is a 25% increase). A percentage point change is absolute (4% to 5% = 1 percentage point change). These two measures tell very different stories!

To add X% to a number N, calculate N ร— (1 + X/100). For example, adding 10% to 200 = 200 ร— 1.10 = 220. This is also used for sales tax calculations.
